Averse Sefira
Averse Sefira is one of Austin's few (only?) black metal bands, and in the past they've performed with Watain, 1349, and many others.
I'm not sure what these guys are up to these days, and I'd love to hear new material. I believe it's Wrath from the band who blogs here. Black metal is stirring up a lot of debate right now, and he jumped right in, calling Liturgy a "shrill little band" while, in a later post, expressing his belief that "with few exceptions there should be no new entries in black metal. Once a genre has amassed a set of long-running and reliable bands, there need only be sporadic entries to keep things moving." I disagree, but a little debate is definitely interesting.

Absu In San Antonio, But Not Austin
Absu's new album Abzu comes out October 4th, and they're touring in support. Great, right? Unfortunately, they're playing some festival shows overseas and just one Texas show...in San Antonio. I believe I'm going to go with my photographer friend Arian, but a show in Austin would be even better.

Statement Of Purpose
Austin has a healthy metal scene that - thanks to the pull of bands to cities that have more of a metal reputation - could still afford to be healthier. This blog will chronicle black metal coming to Austin, and black metal bands who should come to Austin.
