"Death to Black Metal"

Very interesting set of interviews with Hunter Hunt-Hendrix of Liturgy and George Clarke of Deafheaven.

I forgot to mention my favorite part of these interviews - apparently Hunter Hunt-Hendrix hasn't heard the Judgement Night soundtrack? This gem is back out on vinyl, and while it's not a start-to-finish perfect record, I can't stop writing/listening/thinking about it twenty years later. Not only did it help hasten in the crunchy metal-riff-meets-rap sound that was already bubbling with Public Enemy and the Beastie Boys (and paved the way for Papa Roach, but no one blames 'em), but it also dips into more strange and pop areas like the Teenage Fanclub/De La Soul collab "Fallin'".

Incredible. And that Onyx jam is the best.

Coming Soon - Humut Tabal/Plutonian Shore Review

Believe it or not, the point of this blog was to draw attention to and talk about black metal either from or coming to central Texas. The guys from local band Humut Tabal sent me a copy of their split EP with Plutonian Shore (from San Antonio), which I'll review shortly.

In the meantime, here's a video for "Ode To Misanthropy - This I Swear."

Free Show at the Scoot Inn

Free week is here, which means a great chance to make up for all the quietude of the last few weeks. Of special note at this show tomorrow are Downfall of Gaia, who are here from Germany for the first time. They're joined by Vestiges, Dead to a Dying World, and local band Boars.
